No Child Of Mine by Susan Lewis

5 Star

Sophie is a happy 18-year-old living in London with Anna, her Irish mother. Anna has devoted her life to Sophie. It may be just the two of them but Anna has more than enough love to give. Sophie has everything she could ever need.

Laura is a not-so-happy artist. She too has a daughter, Mandy. But Laura is haunted by the loss of her first child, Jody. Happy-go-lucky as she is, Mandy lives in Jody's shadow and wonders why her mother can never let go.

Both mothers carry secrets and cannot forget the day their paths crossed. But a chance discovery is about to bring everything into the open and mothers and daughters, love and lies, past and future, will spectacularly collide.

Sabrina-Kate - 5 Star

It took me several chapters to start remembering the characters and figuring out who they were and how they fit in but once I was able to do that I starting to very much enjoy the book as it was exactly the kind of meaty, detailed story that I really enjoy.

The subject matter is sometimes difficult to read as there are quite intense descriptions of abuse. I appreciated very much the manner in which the author handled this delicate subject. The descriptions were rich and detailed but in a tasteful way, well as tasteful as you can be in those circumstances. But no doubt was left in my mind as to what was being referred to.

The story also has a lot of dysfunction detailed it in and Lewis also did an excellent job in explaining the delicate situations and in a way that almost made me feel like I was right there and involved which is definitely a big selling point for me as I love being so immersed in the story.

There is a lot of detail and characters, past and present, which give this story a complexity that was sometimes a little bit hard to follow and I certainly wasn't expecting the ending to be as it was though I was really happy with the outcome. The entire book was filled with frustrating, yet lifelike, situations and I couldn't be more pleased as to how the author tied everything up. Definitely one of my favorite books of this year of this genre, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good suspenseful read.
