My Own Miraculous by Joshilyn Jackson

5 Star

Shandi Pierce got pregnant when she was only seventeen years old. She fell for her son—deeply, instantly, completely—but as she sat at the table feeding him, her own mother was sliding eggs and bacon on her plate, feeding her.

Now, four years later, Shandi is still more parented than parent. She lives with her mom, her dad pays her bills, and her best friend Walcott acts as her white knight. But Natty is no ordinary kid, and when his savant behavior catches the attention of an obsessive stranger, only Shandi sees the true menace.

To protect her son, Shandi must grow up, fast, and find an answer to the question—How does a girl remake herself into a mother?

Sabrina-Kate - 5 Star

Though My Own Miraculous was a short story, it was definitely packed full of detail and action. Reading it took no time at all and at the end, all I could think was, "Wow - what a ride that was!"

This story deals with a lot of issues and shows the different ways mothers can and will protect their children which is something I am discovering more and more each day with my own child and seeing others.

Probably surprisingly to some, this was my first time reading anything by Joshilyn and I adored her writing style especially the way she described things. I really felt like I was in Shandi's head as I could relate to her and her emotions just that much.

This story was not straightforward and completely unpredictable which kept me guessing and had that element of the unknown which kept things very interesting.

I really can't say much more without giving anything away but My Own Miraculous was fast paced and thrilling yet emotional and all at once! I definitely am going to check out more of Joshilyn's writing and soon!
