Scared Scriptless by Alison Sweeney

4 Star

Maddy Carson is a mass of contradictions. She loves her job as Script Supervisor on a hit TV show, but hates "Hollywood." Super-organized and down-to-earth, Maddy is clearly one of the best at her job, and her strict dating rule - "No Actors!" - helps her keep focused on her career. However, a budding relationship with Craig, one of the executives at her company, may even propel her into the big leagues. Could Wolf County, her beloved hometown in the mountains, be saved from a financial crisis by creating a reality show featuring the eccentrics in the small ski village? Maddy is determined to try, even when she learns that Craig's agenda doesn't exactly line up with her altruistic goal.

Meanwhile, Maddy still has a full-time job to manage, her family to deal with, and a gorgeous new actor, Adam Devin, determined to wear down her resistance. Eventually Maddy must learn to break all her self-imposed rules and simply follow her heart.

Sabrina-Kate - 4 Star

Scared Scriptless was a delightful read about Maddy, a person with whom I could identify and hold close to my heart because I could definitely relate to her conflicted nature. Maddy found herself working in an environment that she didn’t believe in but hoping that she could make changes or have things matter in different ways. I appreciated this because the altruistic and idealistic side of me understood this all too well.

The story itself had a few gaps in it that made it feel that it didn’t flow well all of the time but enough that I read this book quite quickly and enjoyed it very much. I suppose that some of the lapses may have been due to the fact that I am not a person who is into show business or understands a lot that goes on.

Scared Scriptless has some Hollywood glamour and a lot of small town charm which was an interesting mix that somehow worked. You can clearly tell that the author was probably very similar to her characters which I found to be a strength in her writing. Although I am unfamiliar with her other work (for now), I can tell that she is an immensely talented entertainer and I look forward to discovering more about her!
